Staff and students across campus have voiced their support for the University of Stirling’s student footballers ahead of their encounter with Dundee United in the Scottish Cup.

In a well-wishing video message, staff and student supporters expressed their support for the team as they prepare for their historic match at Tannadice on Saturday. Stirling is the first university team to reach the last 32 of the Scottish Cup in more than 50 years.

Students’ Union President Tash Miller, Sports Union President Murray Bushell and Students’ Union VP Communities Jess Reid joined academics, coaches and hospitality staff in the video, shot on-campus this week.

“Best of luck, boys. Go out, have an amazing time, and no matter the result, we are so proud of you,” said Tash.

Swimming Coach Martyn Walton, who will join more than 1,000 supporters at the match on Saturday, said: “I think it’s great that a university team has made it this far, let alone my university, in the Scottish Cup. Best of luck. I’ll be there cheering on.”

Jo Hagerty, Head of International Mobility, will be at Tannadice with her son. “Huge congratulations from everyone in the Internationalisation and Partnerships team. Go team!” she said.

Groups of staff from Campus Eats, Stirling Court Hotel and the Sports Centre came together to wish the team good luck. William McKenzie, a bartender at Stirling Court Hotel, said: “Good luck on Saturday, boys. Have the confidence to play and the belief to win.”

Due to the huge demand for tickets on Saturday, supporter Professor Gordon Mackay – a world-renowned sports surgeon whose practice, The Mackay Clinic, sponsors the club’s strips – has hired a fleet of buses to ferry the mammoth support to and from Tannadice.

Tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased up until kick-off, as they are issued electronically. Visit the Dundee United away tickets webpage for more information and to purchase: stir.ac.uk/99i
