MLitt Gender Studies

Caroline Darke

Having always been interested in gender equality and women’s rights, Caroline decided to embark on the MSc/MLitt in Gender Studies at Stirling.

“I believe that the quest for equality continues to pervade every aspect of our daily lives, from economics, politics and education, to education, sport, the arts and the media. Therefore, when I saw the breadth and diversity of subjects offered by the Masters at Stirling, I knew that this was the course for me. “

Caroline’s course also offered the option to undertake a research placement with an external organisation. She added: “It provides an excellent opportunity to apply this learning in real and practical ways, ensuring that your research can have a direct impact on the lives of women and girls across the UK, and beyond.”

As a mature student, who worked through the entire duration of the course, finding the balance between work, study and personal life was, at times, challenging, but she explained: “The Faculty staff were really supportive and understanding throughout, providing advice and practical solutions as to how best manage the workload.”

Caroline added: “Having now found a niche subject through my dissertation, which I am interested to pursue further, I am hoping to continue my studies by undertaking a PhD.”
