Students from the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS) in Beijing are on campus as part of a unique doctorate programme being run jointly with Stirling Management School.
During their week-long visit, the students – part of the second Doctor of Management (DMan) cohort - are attending study and careers sessions, learning about new research and study techniques, and enjoying guest lectures.
They are the first group to make a trip to Stirling after DMan teaching commenced in January 2021.
UCASS is a prestigious research-intensive higher education institution, directly overseen by the State Council (equivalent to our Cabinet Office) of the People’s Republic of China.
The University of Stirling’s DMan degree, launched in 2020, is the first Sino-UK joint professional doctorate programme in management to be approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education (MoE) and currently has 101 students. This achievement was only possible due to UCASS’s excellent academic standing and the internationally renowned academic strength of Stirling’s School of Management.
Robert Webb, Associate Dean, Global Engagement and Recruitment and Director of the programme, said: “We are delighted to welcome our UCASS students and to see their progress on the course. This continues to be a highly important and prestigious partnership for Stirling Management School and UCASS and we know the DMan programme will produce some excellent graduates who will be prepared to address some of the managerial and organisational challenges we all face as part of the fourth industrial revolution.”
Bing Wang says he has learned about everything from writing research papers to entrepreneurship on his visit to the University of Stirling.
Bing Wang, who is in his third year of the DMan programme, works for a food packaging company plant in China. He said: “We have learned a lot from the University of Stirling staff about how to do research and literature reviews, and understanding the philosophy behind research. On the trip to Stirling I’ve enjoyed learning about entrepreneurship. I know that doing the programme will be a plus factor for me going forward in my career.”
