The British Council has launched a scholarship programme in partnership with the University of Stirling aimed at benefiting women from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. This scholarship is open to women who are pursuing a postgraduate degree within the subjects listed below and who can demonstrate their need for financial support, motivated to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM.

If you are a citizen of one of the five countries listed above, we strongly encourage you to apply for this scholarship.

The scholarship covers the full costs associated with study at the University of Stirling, including tuition fees, living costs, travel costs, equipment and study costs. Full details below.

  • Tuition fees
  • Up to 12 months monthly stipend at the rate of £1,347 per month, to cover costs of living, including accommodation.
  • IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English).
  • Return economy-class travel from home country to UK.
  • Study-related costs, such as essential travel, materials, equipment, thesis printing etc.
  • Visa and insurance / NHS surcharge costs.
  • Ad hoc costs (for example: heavy baggage allowance).

Value of scholarship

Tuition fees, up to 12 months monthly stipend at the rate of £1,347 per month, IELTS exam fee, travel fees and visa costs.

Eligibility and availability

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • have completed an undergraduate degree that will allow you to meet the academic requirements of the University of Stirling for the degree programme you apply for before you submit your scholarship application;
  • have not previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK. Distance learning at a UK university or study at a UK branch campus in another country will also be considered as studying in the UK;
  • be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2024;
  • meet the English language requirement of the University of Stirling for the degree programme you apply for;
  • demonstrate a need for financial support;
  • not be in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source and not be able to privately fund your UK studies;
  • demonstrate a plan and a passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from your home country;
  • agree to return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship award has ended.

You are not eligible for the British Council Women in STEM scholarship if you:

  • hold dual British citizenship;
  • are an employee, a former employee or relative of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; the Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office);
  • are an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM – eligible countries;
  • are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source;
  • have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary.

Applications for this scholarship are now closed. The deadline for applications was 30 of April at 12:00 (GMT). Successful candidates will be notified by the University in June 2024.
