Choosing a postgraduate course

We have 90 postgraduate degrees for you to choose from to achieve your career objectives and realise your life ambitions.

The difference between Masters degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, and Postgraduate Certificates is the number of credits earned and the time taken to complete them. All postgraduate taught courses are graded at Level 11 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework.

Our Postgraduate taught degrees

Most of our postgraduate students choose to pursue a Masters degree. Stirling’s Masters courses are intensive programmes of study that typically take one year to complete. Research-informed teaching consists of lectures, seminars and a wide range of practical assignments, research projects and work placements.

We offer a range of taught qualifications:

Master of Science (MSc) and Master of Arts (MA)

Our MSc and MA qualifications are typically undertaken by students who wish to develop an advanced subject knowledge in a particular area, or to change their subject of study following the completion of a Bachelor’s degree. Generally, these qualifications are taught through seminars, lectures and project work, and are assessed by course work, exams and a dissertation.

Master of Research (MRes)

An MRes qualification at Stirling offers advanced research methods and skills training in interdisciplinary and discipline specific contexts. It’s ideal if you’re keen on pursuing a career in research or doctoral study.

Master of Letters (MLitt)

Our MLitt is similar to a taught MA or MSc but is typically in literature, history or law.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The Stirling MBA is an internationally recognised qualification that enables you to develop your skills and knowledge in leadership and management.

Master of Laws (LLM)

Our LLM is a qualification that lets you specialise in a niche law subject, such as Environmental Policy or International Energy Law.

Master of Public Policy (MPP)

An MPP at Stirling is a professional qualification that offers essential training in policy analysis and how to help solve major societal issues.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

Stirling’s MPH Master of Public Health (Online) is a multidisciplinary qualification designed to provide you with the advanced academic background required for leadership roles in public health.
