Entry and English language requirements

Select your country/region below to find details of the international qualifications we accept for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Please also check the specific grades and essential subjects required for your chosen course by checking our individual course pages.

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your English language skills. For a complete list of the English language qualifications we accept, including where we are able to waive an English condition based on certain local qualifications, please see our English Language requirements.

Botswana

Undergraduate

Postgraduate

Average of B in a Masters degree from a Botswanian institution.

Cameroon

Undergraduate

We usually require school leavers from Cameroon to complete a Foundation Year for entry to undergraduate study. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Minimum of 12/20 in one of the following qualifications:

  • Diplôme d'Ingénieur
  • Diplome d'Etudes Superieures de Commerce (DESC)

Gambia

Undergraduate

We usually require school leavers from Gambia to complete a Foundation Year programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Masters degree with a minimum of 60%/GPA 2.7/B-.

Ghana

Undergraduate

Minimum of 5 grades at B or above, and no grade below C in the WAEC (West Africa Examinations Council)/WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination). Applicants must have a minimum score of B in any essential subject that is required for the course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Minimum 2.2 degree from a recognised university (CGPA 2.5/4, C+, 65%). Applicants from institutions affiliated to Ghanaian universities may be asked to achieve a higher standard for entry to a Masters course.

Kenya

Undergraduate

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum Grade B or above with any required subjects at B+. 

Students with IB, A-Levels or the American High School Diploma can also be considered for direct entry. Please see course pages for requirements.

Postgraduate

Minimum second class, lower division Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 50% in a Bachelor's degree.

Mauritius

Undergraduate

Minimum of BBC at A-level. Some courses may also have subject-specific entry criteria.

Postgraduate

Minimum of a second class, upper division (minimum 60%) Bachelor's degree (Honours).

Nigeria

Undergraduate

Minimum of 5 grades at B or above, and no grade below C in the WAEC (West Africa Examinations Council)/WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination). Students with a National Diploma (two years of post-school study) with ‘Upper Credit’ or higher (CGPA 3.0/4.0) may be eligible for direct entry to year 1 of undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate

Minimum of a second-class, lower division Bachelor's degree (CGPA 2.50/5.00). 

South Africa

Undergraduate

Average of Grade 5 (60%) across 5 subject areas within the National Senior Certificate.

Postgraduate

Minimum of 60% in 4-year Bachelor's degree (Honours).

Tanzania

Undergraduate

Grade B in either the ACSE, COHSC or EAACE.

Postgraduate

Minimum of second class, lower division in a Bachelor's degree.

Uganda

Undergraduate

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with average grade of B.

Postgraduate

Minimum of second class lower division or B in a Bachelor's degree.

Zambia

Undergraduate

We usually require school leavers from Zambia to complete a Foundation Year programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Minimum of 70% in a Masters degree.

Zimbabwe

Undergraduate

Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level. Some courses may also have subject-specific entry criteria.

Postgraduate

Minimum of second class, lower division Bachelor's (Honours) degree.
