Entry and English language requirements

Select your country below to find details of the international qualifications we accept for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Please also check the specific grades and essential subjects required for your chosen course by checking our individual course pages.

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of your English language skills. For a complete list of the English language qualifications we accept, including where we are able to waive an English condition based on certain local qualifications, please see our .

Cambodia

Undergraduate

Postgraduate

Minimum GPA of 3.0/4 or 70% in a Masters degree from a Cambodian institution.

Indonesia

Undergraduate

SMA/MA with GPA of 3.0 or above or ‘Baik’ rating plus IELTS. We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Sajarna degree (S1) with a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or above.

Malaysia

Undergraduate

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with 3 subjects, and with minimum grades of BBB, or UEC with an average grade of 75% or above.

Students with the International Baccalaureate can also be considered. Please see course pages for details.

Postgraduate

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2.5 or above from a recognised university in Malaysia.

Myanmar

Undergraduate

We usually require school leavers from Myanmar to complete a Foundation Year programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

Minimum GPA of 3.0/4 or 60% in a Masters degree.

Philippines

Undergraduate

We usually require school leavers from the Philippines to complete a Foundation Year programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Postgraduate

For courses requiring 2:1 UK Bachelor's (honours) degree;

  • A Bachelor’s degree awarded from a Centre of Excellence or a Prestigious University such as; The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), De La Salle University (DLSU) and the University of Mindanao with a GPA of 2.8/4.0 (2/5 on a 5 point grade scale).
  • A Bachelor’s degree awarded after 2022 from a recognised University with a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or above.
  • A Masters degree.

For courses requiring 2:2 UK Bachelor's (honours) degree;

  • A Bachelor’s degree awarded from a Centre of Excellence or a Prestigious University such as; The University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), De La Salle University (DLSU) and the University of Mindanao with a GPA of 2.25/4.0 or above (2.5/5 on a 5 point grade scale).
  • A Bachelor’s degree awarded after 2022 from a recognised University with a GPA of 2.4/4.0 or above.
  • A Masters degree.

English language requirements

To waive IELTS we require evidence of a Bachelor’s degree that was both taught and examined in English within the last five years. This is typically validated through the submission of a 'medium of instruction' (MOI) letter from a recognised university, written on headed paper.

Singapore

Undergraduate

BBB at A level for most undergraduate courses. Some courses may stipulate subject specific criteria.

Students who have studied a three year Polytechnic Diploma may be suitable for advanced entry into year 2 or 3 of a related four year undergraduate degree and subject to an assessment by academic department. Some courses are not suitable for advanced entry. In general, a GPA of 3.0 is required for consideration for Level 3 entry, a GPA 2.5 for Level 2 entry.

Postgraduate

Minimum of a second class, lower division (four year) Bachelor's degree (Honours).

Thailand

Undergraduate

We accept the following qualifications:

  • High School Certificate MAW 6, with an overall minimum of 70%/3.5 (Very good) and 3.0 (Good) in any subjects where there is a specific requirement.
  • International Baccalaureate - overall score of between 26 - 34 points, depending on the course you are applying to. Some courses may also have subject-specific entry criteria.

We also accept applications from students who have completed one year of relevant university study.

Applicants who do not meet these requirements must complete a Foundation programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

Postgraduate

GPA of 2.5 in an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree.

Vietnam

Undergraduate

We normally require students holding Vietnamese secondary school qualifications such as the High Graduation Examination (HGE) to complete a Foundation Year programme for entry to an undergraduate course. Find out more about the University of Stirling's Foundation programmes.

Postgraduate

6/10 in the Bang Tot Nghiep Dai Hoc or Thac si.

Need help improving your English? If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements, our Pre-sessional English courses can help you progress onto your degree. Delivered on campus by INTO University of Stirling, you’ll be able to access expert training and language support.

International Society

The International Society gives students from all around the world a chance to meet each other and arrange fun events, trips and socials on campus, in Stirling or in different cities across Scotland to provide a real Scottish experience.
