I chose to study at the University of Stirling for its location but mainly for the quality of teaching.  I was attracted to the MSc Heritage at Stirling for its interdisciplinary education, the helpful staff, and the support students receive to become successful after they graduate.

If you didn’t do an undergraduate in History or Tourism you can do the MSc Heritage, no matter what your background is.

The course has a great variety of lectures, modules and field trips. These are the best way to apply your knowledge and see key players in the heritage field in action.  For example, we went to the National Museum of Scotland and worked with its Director of Collection. We spent a day with the researchers at Wemyss Caves to see and understand their work in conservation and preservation.

During the course, you are constantly developing your skills and you will be prepared for what comes after graduation.  The variety of lecturers we had during the Masters came from experts in different backgrounds such as social anthropology, archaeology, history and so on. They all brought different views through their own personal work which was perfect to broaden our horizons.

Apart from the core modules, the optional modules allow students to specialise to suit your needs and interests.

Staff and students are really friendly, help is provided when you need it. Don’t be scared to ask your lecturer about the course, even about personal things. If sometimes they don’t have the answers, they will try to help you out and point you in the right direction.

You will have the opportunity to do your Masters dissertation with an organisation. This is of great help if you want to work in the Heritage field, and also to find a job once you finish your studies.
